Abstract

This research aimed to investigate the efficiency of Vetiveria zizanioides (L.) Nash cultivated with floating platform technique to treat textile wastewater. The average textile influent contained 297.00-343.67 mg/L BOD (biochemical oxygen demand), 84.71-223.42 mg/L COD (chemical oxygen demand), 44.00-65.33 mg/L, SS (suspended solids) and the average of wastewater absorbance at λmax 526 nm was 0.352-0.472. The results indicated that the vetiver grass cultivated with floating platform technique was effective in removing of pollutants .The treatment efficiencies of BOD, COD, SS and color removal were 77%, 36%, 88% and 43% respectively. As for their growth, vetiver grass was established and growing well in the textile wastewater. After three months they also reached the 134 cm of height, 24.62 cm of the root length and 95.5% of survival rates.
